Candle Safety

Ok - so what follows is common sense but if we can help prevent one accident then we've done a good job!

NEVER leave a burning candle unattended - even if you think you're only going to be out of the room for five minutes you never know whether you'll get distracted or not.

Always burn candles well out of the reach of children and pets.

Make sure you remove ALL packaging and labels before use.

Always try to keep the wick trimmed down to 0.5cm.  Regularly trimming the wick reduces flame height and excess smoke.  Any formation of carbon on the tip of the wick is generally referred to as "clubbing" due to its shape and should be removed.

Burn candles out of droughts.  Burning them in a draught will cause them to smoke which may cause smoke damage/sooting.

Keep candles away from other heat sources.  To prevent fading and dripping do not place candles in direct sunlight and near other sources of heat such as TVs.

Keep burning candles away from flammable items such as curtains and fabrics.

To safely extinguish a candle, always try to use a snuffer.
